G1 Outdoor and Bayside Adventure Sports were founded by Greg Weisman. G1 Outdoors is a consulting organization that educates and coaches churches on how to use outdoor adventure as a powerful ministry tool and how to launch and grow your own outdoor adventure ministry.

Purpose of this Manual

  1. This manual has been crafted for out-of-the-box Christian visionaries. It is intended as a compass and blueprint to help you and your church leaders in three key ways:

  2. To help you understand the need for and benefits of a faith-principled, theologically-rooted evangelical Christian Adventure Sports Ministry (ASM).

  3. To provide you with a step-by-step process on how to get your ministry started and the people you’ll need to get it established as quickly and efficiently as possible.

  4. To offer you decades of qualified expertise in how to adapt, expand, and sustain your ministry, from budgeting and safety considerations to recruiting volunteers to overcoming challenges.

We’ll show why and how an Adventure Sports Ministry (ASM)...

  1. Aligns with solid theological principles with activities that reflect the values and beliefs of your Christian community.

  2. Attracts strong leaders.

  3. Facilitates outreach and evangelism.

  4. Offers a powerful avenue for spiritual growth and discipleship

  5. Builds and nurtures community.

  6. And much more!

Why read or follow this manual? Because the concept of church-based adventure ministry is a new one. Though the concept appears simple, as in “Let’s just go hiking and talk about Jesus,” when you look at the many aspects of safety, liability, effectiveness, staffing, promotion, funding, discipleship, etc., you’ll quickly realize it would be nice to have a mentor and guide on the path to your destination of using adventure sports to attract and attach people to Jesus and His Church, the universal body of Believers in Jesus.

Letter from Bayside Adventure Sports &
G1 Outdoors Founder
Greg Weisman

Dear Lover of God and His Creation,

The book I need to write is, The Rules Don’t Apply to Us.

I’ve broken the rules of life. I did youth ministry differently than the rules said. We did parenting differently. We did education differently. We’ve just broken rules all our lives. It’s like the rules don’t apply to us if we’re Weismans. We’re not lawbreakers, but we are rulebreakers and we taught our kids to go outside the lines, live life big, go do what God’s called you to do, and don’t worry about what everybody else does.

Jesus didn’t follow all the rules either. In fact, He broke all the rules. He broke the medical rules. He healed people by spitting in their eyes with mud. That’s not the normal, recognized medical way of healing people by touch or just by telling them, even by proper Christian standards. He broke the rules of gravity by walking on water. He broke the rules of relationships and religion by befriending the so-called “wrong” people.

The biggest rules Jesus broke were the rules of the Sabbath, because He was the Son of Man and the Son of Man was Lord of the Sabbath. Jesus essentially said the rules of the Old Testament or Old Covenant and the Ten Commandments no longer apply to you. You have a new rule: Love God and love others. Love others as I have loved you.

Andy Stanley’s Irresistible book put words to what we were already doing–showing people how to rethink their faith with a New Testament standard. Most of the Church is resistible now, because we’re hung up on the rules of the Old Covenant, instead of Jesus’s new platinum rule of loving people into the Church and the Gospel.

My hope and prayer in creating this “how to” manual is to help you see why your church needs to break some crusty old Christian rules and go outside the lines by jumping outside into a richer, fuller, more immersive and exciting Christian experience in God’s amazing, beautiful creation. We want to help you understand why your church needs an Adventure Sports Ministry, how you can make the case for this ministry to your leaders, and how to take practical action steps toward getting this new ministry started and running smoothly as quickly and efficiently as possible so that you can start attracting and attaching more people to Jesus and His Church.

May God bless you in your adventure!

Love, Greg Weisman
